*I received both books of the series in paperback from the author for an honest review*

Aquarius Rising is the first book of a sci-fi series, set in a post apocalyptic world, standing out among the others. Not only is it set underwater, the main characters are also amphibians, and it’s a nice change from the usual one-boy/girl-against-the-world dystopian books. The world-building is absolutely fantastic, and the underwater action is full of fascinating detail. When Ocypode and his colony encounter the danger of being destroyed together with their living reef, he and his friends decide to do whatever it takes to save their people and preserve their heritage. We see what has become of the world through his and Dana’s (a human Guardian) eyes, and it’s a vision as beautiful as it is horrifying. But there’s still hope to make the world as it was, and even though it would mean death to many, it becomes the antagonist’s one and only goal. Ocypode was my favorite character, and I liked how brave and loyal he was, despite the fact that he’d never considered himself anything but ordinary; maybe even less than that. I could also sympathize to Mobula and the moral dilemma she had to encounter. I look forward to reading the second book and finding out what happens next!
